Organic food – production and use of non-organic, in-conversion and organic seedlings. The EC is preparing a draft delegated regulation whose aim is to ensure the integrity of organic products by prohibiting derogations for using non-organic seedlings in organic crops that have one growing season.

However, given the lack of availability of organic seedlings, the proposal introduces a temporary derogation for organic production that allows seedlings originating from non-organic untreated seeds but grown under organic conditions.

The proposal also clarifies when seedlings can be labelled as ‘in-conversion’.
