The Official Gazette of the European Union has published the new
Commission Regulation 889/2008 of 5 September 2008 laying down detailed
rules for the implementation of Council Regulation 834/2007 on organic
production and labelling of organic products with regard to organic
production, labelling and control. provides details on the
implementation of the new rules regarding organic production, labelling
and control adopted in June 2007. The new rules enter into force on 1
January 2009 and will constitute a new, simplified import regime, a
more consistent control regime and more detailed labelling
requirements. The EU organic logo, for example, will be mandatory and
the place where the products are farmed must be indicated in order to
inform consumers.
