BioCultura's 27th edition is fixed for 24-27 September.

BioCultura’s Fair of Ecological Products and Responsible Consumption, is an international event bringing together producers, distributors, professionals, and consumers who demonstrate the dynamism of the organic sector, symbol of both the necessary and essential change, to promote a truly sustainable world. It is celebrated every year alternatively in Barcelona and Madrid and every two years in Sevilla and Valencia, Bilbao and A Coruña.


2020: the decade that will transform organic into a mass phenomenon

The online magazine "Bio Actual", in the printed edition for BioFach 2020, publishes a series of interesting articles that take stock of the organic situation at European and international level. Spain: organic surface increases by 8% in 2018

In 2018 the Spanish organic UAA reached 2,246,474.5 hectares, an increase of 8% compared to the previous year: an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA),which published  the anticipation of sector data for the past year. In 2018, the number of organic operators reached 44,282, 6% more than the previous year, of which 39,505 were producers; 4,627 processors; and other retailers, importers and exporters.


Spain: the 2017 figures of the organic sector

Structural data

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAGRAMA) has released detailed data on organic production in Spain for the year 2017. The data confirm the trend of steady  growth and the consolidation of organic production, observed in the recent  years . The area dedicated to organic production increased by 3.1% compared to 2016, exceeding the 2.082.000 hectares. Half of this surface is dedicated to permanent pasture, one quarter to arable crops and the rest  to permanent crops.

The Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente, together with the association Ecovalia, organized a national conference to present the new AENOR rules regarding the inputs to be used in organic farming.


Spain: MAPAMA publishes the "Strategy for organic production 2018-2020"

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment has developed, in response to the needs of the organic sector, a "Strategy for organic production 2018-2020" with the aim to strengthen this strategic Spanish agro-food production sector and its adaptation to the market  trends, in conjunction with the new recently approved European regulatory framework.


Spain: now available organic farming statistical data for the year 2016

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment released the statistical data on the Spanish sector of organic farming at 31 December 2016 with the publication "Agricultura Ecologica - Estadisticas 2016". The document highlights that, in 2016, the total area dedicated to organic production increased by 2.5% compared to 2015, reaching nearly 2,019,000 ha. The number of operators also increased (+ 5.3%), reaching 39,744.

Spain: 2016 data on organic farming confirm the sector growth

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment has published the first data on organic production in Spain for 2016. These data confirm the sustained growth trend and consolidation of the sector which makes Spain the first producer at European level and among the top five major producing countries worldwide.

MAPAMA, the Spanish "Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentacion y Medio Ambiente" , in a comment to the statistical data related to the organic sector in 2015 confirms that the country continues to remain the leader in Europe for organically cultivated surfaces, surfaces that have doubled in the last 10 years.


Spain: now available data about organic farming sector for the year 2014

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment Spaniard has published the official  statistical data on organic surfaces and operators in the country updated to 31 December 2014.  The document,  "Agricultura ecologica - Estadisticas 2014", as every year, contains all the information about operators, surfaces, animal husbandry, aquaculture both at national and provincial level.
