Pisa: the birth of "Organic LTEs" is born, an international research network on organic agriculture

A network of Italian and French researchers engaged in the study of organic agriculture have founded in Pisa a new network, "Organic LTEs" (LTEs = Long Term Experiments). The network is coordinated by the French institute ITAB (Institut Technique d' Agriculture Biologique) and including the Sant'Anna High School, Center "E.

Organic farming and copper: the conclusions of ALT.RAMEinBIO

Upon conclusion of the project "Strategies for Reducing and possible Alternatives to Copper Use in Organic Agriculture" - ALT.RAMEinBIO, CREA organized  in Rome a conference to present and discuss the project results with researchers, technicians, farmers, industry, consumers, policy makers on the issue of copper use in the fight against plant diseases.

FiBL opens its new headquarters in Brussels

The leading research institute in organic agriculture, FiBL, inaugurated its new office in Brussels. It builds a bridge between FiBL’s sound scientific knowledge on organic farming and the policy-making processes taking place in Brussels, including the many different representatives and stakeholders present in the European capital.

SOILVEG - Organic vegetable production with rolling crimping technology: ongoing testing in 9 European countries

SoilVeg is an innovative European research project, coordinated by CREA (Italian Council for Research in Agriculture and analysis of agrarian economy) studying, through the use of the roller crimper, the technique of no/reduced tillage in organic horticulture. The aim of the project is to evaluate how no tillage and the introduction of agro-ecological crops favor soil fertility conservation, biodiversity and energy conservation.

BioSuisse: an interesting collection of slides on organic farming

Useful for teaching and vulgarization, dedicated to professionals working for organic farming in Switzerland but certainly useful also for the same category who has to prepare presentations on the topic in other European countries, they are the latest “creation” of  BioSuisse and FIBL: 500 slides divided into 10 chapters including the “who’s who” of organic farming in Switzerland.

Citrus orchards: organic production improves soil health

A recent study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment compared soil quality in conventional and organic citrus orchards in Eastern Spain, the oldest citrus-growing region in Europe. Orchards were either watered with irrigation water or by flooding. The study assessed the physical and chemical characteristics of the soils.
