Pesticide residues in food: EFSA presents the 2017 picture in the EU

The latest edition of the annual EU report, drafted by EFSA, on pesticide residues in food, is now available. Just under 96% of food samples were found to be free of pesticide residues or to contain traces that fall within legally permitted levels.

EFSA analysed the results of around 88,000 samples collected from the 28 EU Member States plus Iceland and Norway.

IFOAM EU: Strategy for the minimisation of copper in organic farming in Europe

IFOAM EU has published a dossier aiming at presenting the organic strategy to minimise the use of copper in organic agriculture and at presenting existing minimisation activities in a number of EU Member States.

Copper is a trace element and an essential micronutrient appearing in plant, animal and human tissue. Therefore, copper is not only used in plant protection against bacterial and fungal diseases but also as a foliar fertilizer as well as a supplement in animal nutrition.


IFOAM EU: Strategia per minimizzare il rame nell'agricoltura biologica in Europa

L’IFOAM UE ha pubblicato un documento nel quale viene presenta la strategia per ridurre al minimo l'uso del rame nell'agricoltura biologica. Il rame è un oligoelemento e un micronutriente essenziale che appare nei tessuti di piante, animali e umani. Pertanto, il rame non è utilizzato solo nella protezione delle piante contro le malattie batteriche e fungine, ma anche come fertilizzante fogliare e come integratore nell'alimentazione animale.


Use of copper in organic farming: the Mipaaf note

We publish the Mipaaf note addressed to all the Italian CBs on the improper use of copper in organic farming. The note reiterates that the use of external inputs or technical means in organic farming is always subject to the real and demonstrated need for its use, while the operator is required to keep available all the technical documentation about the request.

INRA: copper and organic agriculture

On January 16, INRA (the Italian Institute for Agriculture Research) presented an interesting tool for technical dissemination (ESCo) aimed at reducing the use of copper in the protection of organic crops. The experience is the result of a joint initiative of ITAB, the Technical Institute of Organic Agriculture,  and of an INRA federative research program (Metaprogramme SMaCH *).


Organic farming and copper: the conclusions of ALT.RAMEinBIO

Upon conclusion of the project "Strategies for Reducing and possible Alternatives to Copper Use in Organic Agriculture" - ALT.RAMEinBIO, CREA organized  in Rome a conference to present and discuss the project results with researchers, technicians, farmers, industry, consumers, policy makers on the issue of copper use in the fight against plant diseases.


Università della Tuscia (Viterbo): searching for alternatives to copper use in organic farming

The University cares about organic agriculture: an educational exhibition day was organized last 8 July  by the Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry (DAFNE) of “La Tuscia” University in Viterbo, in cooperation with the didactic-experimental farm 'Nello Lupori'.
