The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies (Mipaaf) informs about the meeting held yesterday with representatives of the National Committee for organic farming, which included the presence of representatives from the Departments of Competitive Policies, International Policies and ICQRF (the Central Inspectorate for Agri-food products Quality Protection and Fraud Repression).
The meeting , chaired by the Deputy-Minister of Agriculture Mr. Andrea Olivero, gave the opportunity to analyze the current situation and the strategies for the development of the organic sector, with particular reference to the issue of simplification, the coordination of policies and the system of control and supervision. The opportunities for the support to the organic sector offered by Rural Development Policy 2014-2020 were also highlighted, as RDP foresees a total budget for organic farming of 1.6 billion euro. Other topics were control activities and supervision undertaken on organic products (over 2,250 interventions in 2014, and over 440 in the first two months of 2015), and updates about the state of negotiations on the proposal for a new European Regulation.
The Deputy-Minister Olivero said: "Today's meeting should be considered as a tool for discussion and confrontation, both essential for the development of strategies for the harmonized development of the organic sector: we count on the active contribution of all those involved in the strengthening of Italian organic sector, with the aim of maintaining at high level the consumers' confidence towards organic productions . "
